About

Kim Cornelisse, wildlife biologist and NEPA planner.

Principal and owner of Prairie Sky Ecology LLC, Parker, Colorado.

Kim founded Prairie Sky Ecology to give agencies, land trusts, consultants and landowners the attention and value of a small practice, backed by experience on some of Colorado's largest environmental studies.

She pairs rigorous field science with a working knowledge of the federal, state and local regulatory frameworks a project has to pass through. Working as both wildlife biologist and NEPA planner on multi-agency filings, she bridges field data and regulatory requirements so that the science collected in the field directly supports the mitigation written into the final decision.

Her background spans NEPA, wildlife reconnaissance, threatened and endangered species, GIS mapping and spatial analysis, and archaeology. She has worked for small consulting firms and large environmental engineering companies alike, including URS Corporation (now AECOM) and Tetra Tech, and coordinates fluently with BLM, USFWS, NPS, USACE, CDOT, CPW, SHPO, RTD, Denver Water and county and municipal governments.

Today her practice centers on conservation easements and land conservation, alongside the wildlife and NEPA work she is known for. She is a Professional Affiliate member of the Land Trust Alliance.

How Kim works

In the field first

Surveys, trapping, habitat assessments and photo points done by the person who writes the report.

Written to be used

Reports, baselines and NEPA sections that reviewers, stewardship staff and agencies can rely on without a translation layer.

Coordinated, not just submitted

Agency relationships and regulatory timelines managed so the project keeps moving.
